Employers' Frequently Asked Questions

1. What features does SER offer employers?

  • A solid track record in meeting employers' needs for over twenty-five years in diverse job specialties
  • An active bank of capable and reliable employees who can offer the needed skills
  • Authority over hiring and interview scheduling decisions
  • Among the lowest fees in the industry (most staff is volunteer)
  • Availability of SER staff up to the time hiring needs are met
  • Direct access to candidate after registering a job and receiving a referral

2. Why should my company register a job with SER?

You have direct access to a job candidate, and all decisions concerning hiring/dismissal are left to your discretion. You can choose from many candidates who have a history of solid experience, sound judgment and loyalty. And because SER is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, the fee for both employers and individual clients is among the lowest in the job placement business.

3. What is the average "profile" of an SER job candidate?

A candidate referred to a company through SER is fifty years of age or older. He/she is responsible, dependable and has a good work ethic. Most candidates have many years of job experience.

4. Does my company have to be based in Northern Virginia for me to register a job with SER?

No, your company may be located anywhere in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

5. What is the fee for hiring a candidate through SER?

The fee for hiring a permanent employee part time or full time is equivalent to two (2) weeks of the referral's salary; for a temporary employee, the fee is 10 percent of the total contract paid to the employee. There will be no cost to employers until SER finds the employee your company wants.

6. Can I offer a temporary position through SER?

Yes. Employers can offer long-term temporary positions and find such temporary hires through Senior Employment Resources. For all positions, the employer needs to pay the candidate directly. SER does not have a payroll service.

7. Can more than one job position be registered with SER? How can jobs be advertised?

Employers may register more than one position at a time with SER, or advertise one position more than one time. If the employer is trying to fill many jobs, they may post an advertisement on our web site for $100/month (25-line maximum plus your logo and link to your web site) or $500 for six (6) months and any candidate would then contact the employer directly. Interested candidates will contact you directly by phone or FAX as you specify in your advertisement. Current ads are located on the JobLine.

8. What happens if my SER candidate does not perform as expected on the job?

A company has full hiring and firing authority for any job candidate. For permanent placements — either PT of FT — we give a one-month trial and, if the candidate doesn't work out, there is no fee and we will try and find another candidate

9. What kind of positions can my company offer through SER?

For a list of the many job specialties an employer may offer through SER, check out the staffing portion of the Employer's Page

10. How long is a company job posted with the SER JobLine?

When a job is filled, the job order is removed from the JobLine. A job order remains in the JobLine until the position is filled.

11. How do I register with SER?

You need to fill out a Job Order Form and submit to SER. There are several ways to submit a Job Order Form:
